Fun Ways to Keep Track of Your Baby’s Development throughout Your Pregnancy

Fun Ways to Keep Track of Your Baby’s Development throughout Your Pregnancy

From the first minute you find out you’re having a baby, until the moment you actually hold your baby in your arms, while it lasts a few months, it could feel like an eternity. During this time, it’s great to get excited about how your baby is growing and developing while your body is hard at work. Here are a few fun ways to do it and develop a close bond with your unborn baby!

1) Bump thump

One of the most amazing ways you can “see” or rather, hear, how your baby is doing is by listening in on him or her. The Bjingles Baby Heartbeat Monitor allows you to not only listen but record your baby’s first heartbeats, and also his or her kicks and movements! Because the device is completely safe to use during pregnancy, there’s no stopping you from putting it on your belly and listening to your baby whenever you wish to. You can even share your recordings with friends and family so everyone can share in your excitement!

2) Weekly stats

When you first go to the doctor, you probably got your and the baby’s weight taken and also given a picture of the rough image of your baby from your very first ultrasound. Even if you don’t go for a doctor’s visit so often, you can still take your own weight and write it down in a journal. You can also include how you’re feeling each week, whether it’s incredibly nauseous or if you’re having a strange craving! You can even draw how you think your baby might look at each stage! These regular scribblings can make you feel close to your baby as he or she develops inside of you.

3) Fun photos

Have you ever heard a pregnant lady go, “Oh I’m at 11 weeks, my baby is the size of a lime!” You could easily search online for websites that tell you what sized fruit your baby is probably like at that particular week of growth. So why not go all out and take pictures of those fruits against your growing belly? It’s fun, shows your friends and family exactly how your baby is doing, and it will create an album to remember! The Bjingles monitor also comes with a Bjingles app that includes a digital pregnancy album for you to store your photos. It also has a feature that helps you take tummy pics with different filters to choose from.

4) Art masterpieces

There has been a great deal of art dedicated to women and especially pregnant women, so why not create your own art masterpieces? Belly moulding has become really popular lately, where women who are preggers make a cast of their full belly, usually at the end of their pregnancy. What a souvenir of your pregnancy cast in stone, or in this case, plaster, quite literally! You can also get your partner or your older children to use clay to mould a figurine of your pregnant self. Another idea is to get them to take a photo of you, but keep only your silhouette and make yourself into a cutout. Grab a bunch of these silhouettes and you’ve got a not only beautiful but meaningful art piece for your baby’s nursery room.

5) Family photoshoot

As a mother-to-be, you are pretty much the star during the entire pregnancy – that is, until your baby steals the limelight! So why not spoil yourself silly with a little professional photo shoot with your partner and even your other children? Pregnancy is a beautiful time (minus the puking and swollen feet and backaches, we swear!) so why not capture it in a most beautiful way? You get to choose the locations, the backdrop, and even the style of photography, so that it is in every way, personal and meaningful. Without saying, these photos will make an amazing memory for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Before you know it, you’ll say goodbye to your ginormous tummy and hello to your gorgeous baby, and everyone around you will fuss over your precious little one too. So why not take advantage of those few months and cherish every moment of your pregnancy in whatever fun way you choose? Why This Baby Tech Company Is Every Pregnant Mother’s Favorite

Why This Baby Tech Company Is Every Pregnant Mother’s Favorite

The market is saturated with all kinds of baby products, and products pregnant women need to prepare for their baby, and products that are great gifts for baby showers. But very few of them come from a place of care or create an unbreakable bond between mother and baby.

Baby tech company Bjingles, came into existence in 2015, and it was the baby of a very motivated entrepreneur, Nasreen Kabani. With 15 years of healthcare experience and a keen involvement in a major infant program started by Children Medical Services (CMS), Nasreen started the company to create something that would help new mothers and moms-to-be bond and interact with their baby before and after birth in a meaningful and happy way.

Thus, Bjingles was born. Here are a few reasons why you’ll find it amazing, just like all these other happy and satisfied customers who swear by Bjingles.

You get to hear your baby and share it with loved ones

“My heart melted as I listened to my grandson’s heartbeat and heard him kick!”

“It has become a family affair and my older children love to hear their sister’s heartbeat!”

Don’t underestimate the intense joy you’ll feel when you hear your baby’s heartbeat and not just that, but also their kicks and movements – even hiccups! The Bjingles Baby Heartbeat Monitor comes with not only a set of headphones plus earplugs but also a recording function that allows you to save the audio in mp3 format or to your phone. That way, everyone from grandma and grandpa to that lady behind you in aisle six can get in on sharing your joy and excitement!

You get peace of mind

“What an amazing gift, the gift of peace of mind!”

“Definitely worth the price to be able to listen whenever you want reassurance, or to feel connected!”

“Amazing and so comforting having this at home for those impatient (waiting for the next ultrasound) and panicky mamas out there like me :)”

For couples who might have gone through a previous miscarriage, words cannot express the peace of mind they feel when they monitor their baby’s development each and every day. But many parents have also expressed how the Bjingles Baby Heartbeat Monitor has helped them check on baby even before their first official doctor’s visit, or during those long waits in between gynecologist appointments. No more wondering, you can listen in on exactly how the baby is doing, anytime you want, right from the comfort of your own home.

You get to bond with your baby

“We listen to our baby’s heartbeat once a week as something to look forward to until our little one is born!”

“I was 6 weeks and I couldn’t wait to try it – to my delight within a minute I had found the heartbeat. My little sweet pea sounds like a steam engine right now!”

“We are 9 weeks along and surprise surprise we could hear the woosh woosh way faster than my wife’s heartbeat. Thank you Bjingles for providing an amazing moment and many moments to come.”

Though the recommendation is to try at your 16th week of pregnancy, many customers who have tried the Bjingles Baby Heartbeat Monitor earlier in their pregnancy have enjoyed great results! This premium device gives parents-to-be an undeniable feeling of closeness to their unborn baby when they listen to all the little sounds he or she makes inside. But another great function this device offers is that you can “reply” to your little one! Simply download the accompanying Bjingles app and you play soothing jingles for your baby by placing your phone on your tummy!

It allows you to fully enjoy your pregnancy

“Wife was skeptical but after one use she was so thankful! It has definitely helped reduce her anxiety!”

“In between the time when you first stop feeling sick and first start feeling the baby kick, you can wonder if everything is okay. This is a wonderful reassurance. It is really modern science made accessible.”

“This will help whenever she has a freak out thinking she squashed him in her sleep!”

We completely understand that between barfing and the aches and pains, you might not feel at your best or most confident while being pregnant! But being able to listen to your baby relieves whatever anxiety you might be feeling, like questioning if what you’re eating or doing affects baby negatively. Hearing your baby also reminds you what you’re hanging in there for. Suddenly everything will seem a little bit more manageable! The Bjingles app also has features that allow you to measure and capture your growing belly with tummy pix and a pregnancy album.

It eases your newborn into their new life

Life outside the womb is so vastly different for your baby, but letting them hear familiar sounds can help put them at ease during their transition. The Bjingles app allows you to record and play special messages for your baby while he or she is still inside you, and later for your newborn, such as the jingles, lullabies or Mommy and Daddy’s voices that can soothe and comfort them. And since it’s on your phone, you don’t have to wait until you go home, it works right after birth when you’re still in the hospital!

With so many reasons, it’s no wonder Bjingles is fast becoming every mother’s favorite baby tech company!

Plus this company recently launched their new product, Bjingles Smart Baby Night Light, which is already garnering rave reviews from mommies. 3 Things You Need To Prep Before Your Baby Arrives

3 Things You Need To Prep Before Your Baby Arrives

Congratulations! You’re having a baby! In the months that you stroke your belly and beam with excitement, you’ll also probably be busy reading up on what to do when your baby comes out or trying to figure out what you need to get in advance. The baby industry is saturated with a gazillion items touted as “must-haves”, but are they really? You can give a sigh of relief to know that babies aren’t actually very complicated and they need only a handful of things. But at the same, time you also don’t want to miss out some things that can come in really handy before and after they pop out! Here’s an easy guide to prepping for your little sweetheart’s arrival!

Setting up the nursery

At about 20 weeks it should be fairly easy to tell the gender of your baby, and some parents immediately go crazy decking the whole room out in pink or blue. (By the way, what’s wrong with non-gender-stereotypical colours like yellow, purple or turquoise?)

Aside from aesthetics though, when it comes to the big stuff in the nursery, there’s really no rush to get an all-options diaper changing station when for now you can even change your baby on the bed, and you don’t need one of those grows-with-your-child beds yet. Babies just need somewhere to sleep that’s safe so you avoid risking SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). For young infants, it’s safest if they sleep on their back and don’t sleep with things like stuffed toys or extra blankies that could potentially block their airways.

Traditionally it might seem like babies sleep in cribs, but you can also use a bassinet, Moses basket, cradle, travel bed or baby hammock. If you want baby closer to you, then a co-sleeper to place in or next to your bed would be perfect to ensure your baby has his own space next to you. And if budget is an issue, go with a cardboard box. No kidding! Finnish babies come with their own box when they leave the hospital – and Finland has one of the world’s lowest infant mortality rates, so you can be sure they know what they’re doing!

Packing the hospital bag

It might seem a long way off, but it’s always better to be well-prepared especially when your baby isn’t exactly going to announce his arrival in advance! Because staying in a hospital isn’t exactly like staying in a hotel with room service, be sure you have some of these things:

  • Snacks – You never know when you’re going to be overcome with hunger, especially after doing some heavy-duty pushing perhaps? Hospital meals are far between and their cafes never have the right snacks you want, so make sure you pack a good stash for the duration of your stay.
  • Toiletries – You might not be able to take a shower just after birth, but perhaps the next day or so you might be yearning to feel a little bit fresher. That first shower after birth can be heavenly! So pack some nice scented treats for that all-important refresher.
  • Entertainment – Yes you’re supposed to be sleeping while your newborn sleeps, but you also need something to while the time you’re in the hospital when there isn’t a frenzy of family and friends visiting. Magazines, books, a tablet, your phone – make sure you pack a charger with a cable that’s long enough (we recommend 3 meters!) – these can keep you sufficiently occupied so you don’t go mad from boredom.
  • Comfy stuff – Slippers, dressing gown, lip balm, socks, old comfy T-shirts. It’s important you feel as comfortable as you can!
  • Nursing gear – It might seem overwhelming when they shove you your baby and make you start breastfeeding immediately, but you’ll soon get used to all the different eyes on you to make sure you’re doing it right. To get comfy in this crazy new breastfeeding routine, it’s best to have the right stuff already in place, like the right nursing bra, nursing top, and a breastfeeding pillow that will suddenly become the most important thing to you (besides your baby!).

Easing your baby into their new life

It’s a scary time for any first-time parents, but remember, it’s also pretty scary being a first-time baby! Your baby has to adjust to a completely new environment that just happens to be vastly different from the one he’s known for the last few months. To ease your baby as he makes this transition, it’s worth getting the Bjingles Baby Heartbeat Monitor.

Not only can you use it while pregnant to listen in on how your baby is doing, but you can record your heartbeat and your womb sounds to playback for your newborn. You can also play them the same jingles they heard when you played it for them when they were still inside! Familiar music and sounds can help your baby feel more at home in his new home.

As you start prepping to welcome your new bundle of joy, don’t forget to take time to enjoy your pregnancy while it lasts. Listen to your little one kick and move with the Bjingles Baby Heartbeat Monitor; you won’t get to hear this anymore once he’s out (thankfully you can record it)!

The ONE Amazing Baby Product Moms Can’t Live Without!

The ONE Amazing Baby Product Moms Can’t Live Without!

If you’re already a mom, run out and get this immediately, it will save you whatever sanity you still cling onto. If you’re a mom-to-be, put this on your baby registry and you’ll enjoy a great start to parenthood. If you know someone who’s having a baby, get this for them at their baby shower and they’re soooooo gonna love you forever!

We’re talking about the all-new Bjingles Smart Baby Night Light of course. What? A night light? We hear your skepticism but be prepared, this is going to bowl you over.

Bjingles Light 9

#1 – It helps bond with your unborn baby

That’s right, we’re talking in vitro! The Bjingles Smart Baby Night Light easily syncs with the Bjingles app, allowing you to place your smartphone on your belly and play jingles for your baby to enjoy. It even has a record function so you can record songs that are meaningful to you, or even Mummy and Daddy’s voices singing or talking to baby to get him/her familiar with what to expect when he/she comes out!

#2 – It tracks your pregnancy in a fun way

The Bjingles app also comes with two features to take tummy pictures with fun filters and to create a pregnancy photo album that you can share with friends and family. You can even use these as a quirky birth announcement!

#3 – It takes away your stress of knowing when to do what

One of the most amazing things about this not-just-a-night-light night light is that it comes packed with a baby sleep scheduling feature. On the Bjingles app, you can set alarms for all the different activities involved with your baby, such as feeding time, nap time, wakey wakey time, play time, snack time, sleepy time… and this amazing baby alarm clock will let you know when it’s time! No more looking frantically at the clock every 5 minutes so that you don’t miss getting baby’s routine down pat.

#4 – It makes them feel comforted at night

This is where the night light really shines (get it?). Babies can sometimes feel anxiety when the lights in their room go off and this is especially so during the separation anxiety phases they go through. A night light feels reassuring in the dark and coupled with the Bjingles app playing the soothing sounds of Mummy or Daddy singing lullabies, effectively lulls babies into restful sleep. But the light can’t be so bright that it keeps baby awake, thus the Bjingles Smart Baby Night Light emits just the right amount of soft glowy light in soothing shades that support healthy production of the sleepy hormone melatonin in your little one.

#5 – It means good sleep for baby

Not only does it lull baby to sleep, but it ensures a restful night all the way until morning. When baby wakes in the middle of the night, it’s recommended that parents do what they need to do with the least interaction possible and without turning on the room light so as not to put baby into “play mode” but keep them firmly in “sleep mode”. Having a night light like this one in the room allows you to comfort baby, feed them milk and watch their responses while not disrupting their sleep pattern.

#6 – It means more sleep for you!

The Bjingles Smart Baby Night Light allows you to set a gentle alarm clock for baby and even your toddler so that they know when it’s time to wake up, and if they rise earlier than the alarm, know how to put themselves back to sleep because it’s not yet time to start the day. This can really help in sleep training your child so they get more sleep – and while they do, so do you! We know all moms would be thankful for even an extra 15 minutes of sleep!

Bjingles Light 2

#7 – It’s their trusty companion through the years

The Bjingles Smart Baby Night Light works wonders for your kids when they’re babies, but it doesn’t stop there. You may use the baby night light from birth sitting beside them in bed singing or reading to them, but when they’re older and can read on their own, they know their trusty companion is right there beside them as their bedside reading lamp now. Sometimes it’s something like that that gives children all the confidence to start and end their day well.

Don’t these 7 reasons simply show that this night light really knocks it out of the park? Who knew you could buy one product and find it helping you in so many ways while you navigate the choppy but exciting waters of parenthood! So think no longer and choose the Bjingles Smart Baby Night Light. As any parent will tell you, if it helps, get it!

Mommies, get yourself and your baby the perfect gift with the Bjingles Smart Night Light .Available on Amazon. Plus you can also download the Bjingles App on the Apple Store or Google Play.

3 Ways You Can Bond With Your Unborn Baby

3 Ways You Can Bond With Your Unborn Baby

From aww-ing over that little thing on that first ultrasound screen to sending out your pregnancy announcements, you might be feeling ecstatic as a mom-to-be. But with the early stages of pregnancy being pretty tough on you physically and emotionally (and barfing every day doesn’t help either!), you might feel somewhat disconnected to the baby. You might also feel slightly overwhelmed by all these new changes, especially if you’re expecting your first, and might struggle to feel excited about the baby.

Don’t worry! That’s all really normal, and 9 months is enough time for you to get started on with bonding with your unborn baby before he or she pops out! Making the effort to bond with the baby early while they are still in utero actually helps you develop your identity as a mom and a stronger attachment with your newborn. Here are some ways you can reach out (or reach in!) and get in touch with your little person.

  1. Sing And Talk To Your Baby

It may seem silly but there is a science to this! According to Carista Luminare-Rosen, founder, and co-director of The Center for Creative Parenting in California, “Prenates can see, hear, feel, remember, taste, and think before birth.” As early as 18 weeks, your baby’s hearing starts tuning in to mommy’s heartbeat and then to your lovely voice. Because baby grows inside you and is so used to all the womb and heartbeat sounds, you can record your womb sounds with the Bjingles Baby Heartbeat Monitor, and play it back to help soothe your newborn. Hearing your voice – and it doesn’t matter what you say but your tone of voice – helps baby feel attached to you quickly, which is why your voice can later also calm your newborn down because it’s something familiar and comforting to him or her.

2. Play Music For Your Baby

If singing isn’t your thing, you can also play music, and don’t worry, your little one can hear it from his amniotic fluid acoustic chamber! Musicologists believe that babies respond well to low-frequency, calming rhythms which mimic mommy’s heart rate and provide a harmonious environment to grow in. That’s why classical music like Mozart and Vivaldi are so popular amongst prenatal music. But don’t be afraid to share your favorite songs or even a wide variety of genres from country to jazz.  One of the best devices mommies use to play music is the Bjingles app. If you are using the Bjingles Baby Heartbeat Monitor, it comes with its own app with a range of jingles to choose from that you can play to the baby by holding your phone close to your belly. He or she might even respond with an approving kick! You can continue playing these jingles even after the baby is born. You can download the app without the device as well.

Studies show that babies can recognize music they’ve heard in the womb after they’re born, especially if they’ve heard it often, like their own personal theme song.

  1. Listen To Your Baby. Hear The Heartbeat

It might seem like a one-way street in terms of communicating with the baby, but don’t forget, you can still listen to the baby even if he or she can’t yet talk back. The Bjingles Baby Heartbeat Monitor allows you to listen to baby’s heartbeat, even his or her little hiccups and kicks, anytime you wish to and in the comfort of your own home. What’s more, it comes with a set of headsets and a set of earbuds, so Daddy can get in on some Daddy-baby bonding time! After all, Daddy’s excited too after seeing that little thing on the doctor’s screen. With the computer recording cable that comes with it, you can also record all those exciting first sounds of baby and share them with family and friends. You might be the only one feeling the kicks, but at least everyone else can share on hearing them!

Talking, singing, and playing music not only creates a peaceful, calm environment for baby but sends them the message that they are wanted and loved. And when the baby comes out and hears your voice outside the womb for the first time, they might even look at you in an acknowledging way that says, “Hey, it’s you! I know you!” So enjoy your pregnancy period and happy bonding with baby!

How To Stay Safe And Healthy During Pregnancy – Do’s & Don’ts

It’s one of nature’s most amazing phenomenon – you’re carrying a little living thing inside of you! Knowing this, you’ve probably felt the need to be a bit more careful with yourself so as not to shake things up too much for your little one. At the same time, you might still want to enjoy some things that may become more difficult once your baby is out. Just where should you draw the line at pregnancy adventures?

Exercise is amazing! And it’s especially awesome for pregnant women because 1) it helps ease aches and pains, 2) it helps you sleep better and 3) it even helps with constipation! You might have even heard that active women usually enjoy easier labor, delivery, and recovery! And wow wouldn’t it be great to lose all that baby weight quickly? But don’t just jump into it if you haven’t been regularly active.

If you’ve always been doing high-intensity workouts, and if your doctor gives you the A-okay, by all means, workout! But if you’re just getting started, don’t suddenly go run a marathon. The best exercise for pregnant women anything that’s low-impact – so go hiking, swimming, dancing, or do an easy aerobics class or mommy yoga.

What’s the biggest no-no when it comes to exercise when being pregnant? Why, anything where you might get kicked in the tummy, of course! Sorry, but the kickboxing might have to wait. Baby might love kicking you, but he or she sure wouldn’t like being kicked back!

It’s pretty simple with this one, you could fall! And if you’re already dealing with swollen feet or achy legs, give them a break from heels, please! But there are more reasons why you should slip into comfier flats. To get you ready for birth, your body releases the hormone relaxin which loosens you and your joints and ligaments up. This makes you more flexible for baby’s first appearance but it also puts extra pressure on your joints, back, knees, pelvis, ankles and more! So the best thing to do is simply and quite literally remain down-to-earth during your pregnancy!

Did you know that pregnant women much like modern smartphones also run the risk of overheating? It’s true! An excess amount of body heat can actually lead to stunted fetal development. This means staying out of the sun, keeping cool in summer, and no hot tubs or sun-tanning. In fact, you might have to miss having a tan for a while because pregnancy makes you more susceptible to the dangers of UV radiation. Hot tubs are a no-go because they cause profuse perspiration which brings more blood to your skin than the uterus and might drastically raise the internal temperature of your amniotic fluid. The good news is that you can always relax in a warm bath that’s not scalding hot. You can even make the bath more luxurious with a bath bomb – but more on that next.

Essential oils

When everything seems to hurt from back pain to sore feet, there’s almost nothing like slipping into a warm relaxing bath and just enjoying those quiet moments – while they last, especially! But certain essential oils commonly found in bath products like soap, bath bombs or scrubs, are not really recommended during pregnancy. Some can even cause early contractions! There is a general consensus that these essential oils are safe throughout your pregnancy but preferably only in the second and third trimesters: Bergamot, Roman chamomile, geranium, lavender, ylang-ylang, grapefruit, ginger, sweet orange… To be safest, check with the company you buy your products from or with your doctor.

Amusement park rides

Do you really need help being nauseous? Ok, maybe you already planned to visit a theme park while on vacation. Is it still ok to go on all those rides? Well… the answer is mostly no. Thing is, those quick starts and stops and jerky motions take a toll on anybody, what more a pregnant body. There is the risk of miscarriage due to dislodgement if you’re in the early stages of pregnancy, and those rigorous pressures on your body can also cause premature separation of the placenta from the uterus wall. You can check ahead of time as most amusement park websites will indicate which rides are considered safer for pregnant women, and there’ll be warning signs on rides too. If you have an annual pass, some parks even let you suspend membership until the baby is born. By the way, the same applies to horse riding, snowboarding, skiing, surfing. So maybe skip these thrill rides for now and prepare yourself for the most exciting ride of all about to happen: becoming a parent!

Hope these tips make your pregnancy more seamless and safe.

5 Things Every Pregnant Woman Needs To Have

You might have seen that some must-haves for pregnant women usually include vitamin supplements, yoga pants and maybe a pregnancy bra that grows with your boobs. But we have a couple of also very necessary things that will make those nine months not only easier to bear but also more meaningful!

Baby Heartbeat Monitor

Remember that feeling when you saw your little one moving during your first ultrasound? That’s probably the moment when you felt a wave of emotions gush over you, being able to feel close to your baby and know he or she’s doing okay in there. To experience that wonderful feeling of closeness in your own home, why not get yourself a baby heartbeat monitor? Not only can you listen to your baby’s heartbeat, you can also record it and share it with friends and family – perhaps even as a surprising birth announcement? (“Can you hear what’s coming?”) With some baby heartbeat monitors , like Bjingles, you can even hear baby’s first movements and play him or her music while she’s still relaxing in the womb. Also, parents who might have previously had angel babies at any stage of pregnancy before would especially appreciate being able to check on baby periodically and enjoy peace of mind when it comes to baby’s development and well-being.

Body Support

Your body is going through all kinds of weird things you never even knew it could do. You even grow a whole new organ – the placenta – that you otherwise would never have! Growing a baby is tough work and it surely takes a toll on your body, and aches and pains are the daily norms. The good news is that there are all kinds of support bands available for mums-to-be these days. Groin bands help to kinda hold everything in down there when it feels like it’s almost falling out. When you feel like you need to hold your belly with two hands just to get to the store, pregnancy support belts really ease the “weightlifting” and also help relieve some abdominal and back pain. Especially if you’re having more than one baby and gravity isn’t exactly helping that humongous tummy of yours, you can even opt for shoulder bands. They’re just like suspenders but instead of holding your pants up, they hold the baby up!

Pregnancy Apps & Forums

Not kidding about this one! Whether at home or on your mobile phone, being able to go online, join pregnancy forums or groups, and talk to other expectant mothers, just could be the thing that makes your pregnancy a breeze. You’ll have a whole support group of women going through the same things, who will understand when you have some bad days, or when you’re worried about certain things, or when you just want to swap stories. There are tons of FB pregnancy groups you can join as well. And when you want to know more about your baby’s development in there, you can always check out baby apps that list baby’s updates weekly. Not to mention, you’ll always know what fruit baby is the size of right then!

Some of the top apps to look out for

a) Bjingles Baby app – You can use this app to record your unborn baby’s heartbeats, kicks, etc or use it to select from a variety of jingles to put your baby to sleep. The complete app from pre-birth to motherhood.

b) My Pregnancy today – BabyCenter’s classic pregnancy tracker and baby development calendar app is a day-by-day, week-by-week guide through your pregnancy

c) BabyBump Pregnancy Pro -Provides daily and weekly details about your growing baby, a due date countdown, weight and belly measurement trackers, pregnancy forums, and a baby names guide

d) Pregnancy Due Date Calculator – This app will calculate your baby’s due date, the likely date of conception, how far along you are, and when you’ll hit the end of your first trimester

Pregnancy journal

It might seem like nine whole long months, but when it’s over, you’ll feel like it just whizzed by and you forgot all those moments that seemed like dramatic milestones then. But if you had written down all those little fleeting moments in a pregnancy journal, you’d have something to look back on even years down the road – and maybe even when they’ve all flown the coop! Documenting doesn’t have to be tedious – there are plenty of beautifully designed pregnancy journals with helping questions that you just have to fill in such as baby’s first kicks and what cravings you might have. Since a pregnant woman’s emotions can sometimes also be all over the place, writing how you feel at that moment in a journal can also help you gather yourself and your thoughts, and feel more at peace.

How To Prevent / Avoid Stretch Marks During Pregnancy

Growing that big belly can be one of the most rewarding feelings during pregnancy. When you place your hand on it, you feel different, you feel special – and you are, you are Mummy! But as you notice your belly expanding, you might also notice something new – stretch marks.

What are stretch marks?

They’re thin, depressed streaks that zigzag across your belly, and sometimes also other parts of your body like breasts, buttocks, thighs, and hips. This occurs when the elasticity of your skin changes as your body makes way for a growing baby. Stretch marks are quite literally marks left by the supporting layers of tissue under your skin that have been stretched so tight to their limit that they leave a mark of little tears. If you have lighter skin, chances are your marks will look pinkish, whereas if you have darker skin your marks will look like a lighter shade of your skin tone.

Can I avoid stretch marks?

Unfortunately, not really, especially if it is in your genetics (ask your mum if she had it!). According to the American Academy of Dermatology, up to 90% of women can get them sometime after their sixth or seventh month of pregnancy. But while you can’t tell if you’re going to get it or not, there are certain things you can try to prevent stretch marks.

What can I do to try and prevent stretch marks?

1) Control your weight

You tend to get stretch marks easier when you go through rapid weight gain or loss. So eating healthy and exercising will really benefit your body is so many ways, including this one. Check with your doctor that you’re putting on the right amount of weight per trimester. Remember, eating for two doesn’t mean eating twice as much!

2) Stay hydrated

Imagine, you’re building a huge water sack for baby, almost like filling an aquarium! When you’re pregnant, your body demands more hydration, and your skin too needs that hydration to stay elastic. So fill up more often and drink, drink, drink!

3) Eat a good diet

You already want to eat a nutritious diet for baby, but certain vitamins and minerals can help boost skin health. Vitamin C in particular forms collagen in your body. Make sure you get some of these in your meals – Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, zinc, and protein. So go for citrus fruits, vegetables, dairy products, nuts, and fish.

Oh no, I already have stretch marks, what can I do now?

Keep moisturized! Shea butter and cocoa butter are exceptional at keeping skin hydrated. These fatty acids from the shells of the cocoa bean and karite tree nuts do a sublime job at stimulating your skin’s renewal process. Oils are also fantastic, such as coconut oil, olive oil, Vitamin E oil and essential oils. (Note, not all essential oils are suitable during pregnancy.) You can even search recipes create your own balms and creams that help your skin stay hydrated. In fact, ask your partner to give you an olive oil massage on your belly before you shower. Moisturize and get pampered at the same time, wouldn’t that be awesome?

Will stretch marks ever go away?

No, they won’t. But they also won’t look so harsh and unappealing as they might now. The good news is that stretch marks like scars will fade with time. And after the baby is out, you can always turn to prescription creams like Tretinoin or Retin-A, or laser therapy treatment – but only after the baby is out! They are not safe during pregnancy!

While you might not feel like wearing a bikini to the beach while you’re pregnant because of your stretch marks, in time they’ll eventually take their place as the faded battle scars from a ‘battle’ long ago to bring a beautiful baby into the world. And you should be proud of that!

Here is a quick infographic by Consumer Health Digest to help you summarize ways to prevent stretch marks in a natural and organic way.

What Food And Drinks To Avoid During Pregnancy?

Congratulations, you’re a mom-to-be! Have you perhaps been having weird cravings? Or have you been surrounded by all kinds of advice on what you’re not allowed to eat while pregnant, you know, while you’re making a little human in there? Gosh, maybe you’ve even heard that old wives tale that if you drink cold water you might make the baby cold inside and cause them to be constantly moving just to keep warm!
So what foods and drinks should you avoid while pregnant, really?

1. Anything Raw or Unpasteurized :

Seafood, meat, and eggs that are not thoroughly cooked through containing the risk of bacterial contamination, salmonella or even toxoplasmosis which also comes from parasites on cat feces. You might think, oh well I just won’t eat eggs then – but don’t forget just how many other food items might contain raw egg – a fresh Caesar salad dressing, mayonnaise, cookie dough, eggnog, tiramisu, lemon meringue pie, or even Hollandaise sauce (craving eggs benedict, perhaps?). Make sure all your milk is pasteurized and don’t eat soft cheeses that are mold-ripened such as brie, camembert or blue cheeses. Instead, stick to cheddar, parmesan, mozzarella and cheese spreads made from pasteurized milk.

2.  Certain Types of Fish :

Uncooked sushi and sashimi and other raw fish also fall under the list of raw foods, but it doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to your favorite Japanese restaurant for 9 months, just opt for the cooked dishes. However, even some fully cooked fish might not be suitable for you while you’re pregnant. That’s because some types of fish contain a high amount of methyl-mercury, which can harm a baby’s nervous system. Swordfish, for example, is very high in mercury but also very popular in sushi places, so swop that instead for lower-mercury fish like salmon, cod, sardines, mackerel or canned light tuna – and no more than twice a week. The jury is still out to tuna so go with only the canned version instead of fresh tuna.

3. Deli Meats :

For meat like beef or chicken, it’s easy to make sure they’re cooked through – just watch out for no trace of blood and don’t even take a chance with pink (sorry but ask for “Well-done, please” in a steak restaurant!). But cold cured meats like ham, salami, pepperoni, chorizo, and prosciutto are not cooked but rather cured, so it’s best to avoid these for the potential parasites altogether. But if you find yourself craving a taste of Italy, make sure you cook them thoroughly. You can also freeze them first for at least four days as freezing kills most parasites – keyword: most. A safer option would just be to eat these fully cooked in a meal, such as a pepperoni pizza. Michelangelo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would approve!

4. Shellfish :

Ah don’t we all head for the shellfish on the ice at any buffet – mussels, clams, oysters, lobster, crab, prawns, shrimp, crayfish… Mm-mm. To be extra safe, make sure all shellfish you eat is fully cooked through so you skip painful food poisoning or listeria contamination while pregnant. Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that may even lead to miscarriage if transmitted to the unborn baby.

5. Wine and Other Alcohol :

No alcohol is considered safe during pregnancy, and that’s because of the risk of fetal alcohol syndrome. The alcohol passes into the baby’s bloodstream and can potentially cause birth defects, from physical abnormalities to mental retardation, which can stay in the child even as he or she grows. Since no studies have been able to tell how much exactly we should or shouldn’t drink, the best option is to skip all alcohol altogether.

6. Caffeine :

Caffeine can cause irritability and nervousness in your baby, not to mention insomnia. Your baby really doesn’t need it, and too much caffeine has been linked to an increased risk of miscarriage and delivering an underweight baby. Unfortunately, caffeine is not just in coffee, but also in teas, colas, and energy drinks, so it’s best you stick to water, coconut water or fruit smoothies. However, studies have shown that you exactly have to go cold turkey. Most experts, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, recommend keeping your daily caffeine consumption under 200 milligrams to be safe. So go ahead and enjoy that latte macchiato every now and then!

Now that you know exactly what to avoid, you can satisfy your cravings with all things healthy for you and baby. Enjoy those 9 months knowing you’re doing a good job providing your baby with all the best nutrients and building blocks for his or her development!
